King Lear
King Lear - A theoretical scenic design project (2021)
Playwright: William Shakespeare
King Lear's narrative centers around themes of control, power, and despair. The characters are rarely transparent with their actions, which is juxtaposed by the set, which has a see-through quality while playing with the idea of things going on behind "closed doors." The set allows for play within the foreground, middle ground, and background, enhancing the dynamics of the various character relationships. This allows for interactions to be visible to the spectator but obscured to the characters.
