The Wild Duck

The Wild Duck- A theoretical scenic design project (2022)

Playwright: Henrik Ibsen

The play follows a family built on secrets. As the secrets of the daughter's patrimony come to light, the relationship between the assumed father and daughter falls apart. The daughter, feeling helpless and trapped in the unhappy father-daughter dynamic, makes the ultimate and final decision to kill herself to free her father from his twisted family ties. The wild duck in its cage is a symbol for the beloved daughter; therefore, the homestead is framed by walls of metal screen, like a cage. As the story develops and the family falls apart, the walls close in, trapping the family in their fate.
